Hair Extensions in Kuwait: The Four Methods Explained

تركيب وصلات الشعر في اليرموك

Most clients who come to Dashe asking about hair extensions arrive with a single question: which type should I get. The honest answer is that there is no single best method. There are four serious techniques used in Kuwait salons today, each one designed for a different hair type, lifestyle, and budget. The right choice depends as much on your daily routine as it does on the look you want.

This is a short, plain explanation of the four methods, what they cost roughly, how long they last, and who each one suits. If you finish reading and you are still not sure, the simplest next step is to come in for a consultation at Dashe in Yarmouk. We will look at your hair density, condition, and lifestyle, and recommend the method that will hold the best.

Tape-in extensions

Tape-ins are thin wefts of hair pre-attached to a medical-grade adhesive strip. The specialist sandwiches a section of your natural hair between two of these strips, pressing them together so the hair is held in place. The application is fast, usually under an hour, and the result is flat against the scalp, which means it lies invisibly under the natural hair.

Tape-ins last between six and eight weeks before they need to be moved up to the new growth. They are reusable, so the same set can be reapplied two or three times before being replaced. Tape-ins suit fine to medium hair particularly well because there is no weight pulling on a single point. They are also one of the more comfortable options to sleep in.

The trade-off is that tape-ins are not ideal for very oily scalps, because oil can break down the adhesive faster than usual. They also need to be brushed and washed carefully around the bond line.

Micro-ring extensions

Micro-rings, also called micro-beads or i-tips, attach individual strands of extension hair to small sections of natural hair using tiny silicone-lined metal rings. No glue, no heat, no chemicals. The specialist threads a small section of your hair through the ring along with the extension strand, then clamps the ring shut.

This method is the most gentle on the natural hair because nothing is bonded or melted. It is also the longest-lasting between maintenance appointments, with three to four months before the rings need to be moved up. Micro-rings suit medium to thick hair and clients who want a method they can wear for many months at a time.

The application is slower, often three to four hours, and the upfront cost is higher because of the time involved. The rings can sometimes be felt when running fingers through the hair, although a skilled technician will place them so they sit flat against the scalp.

Keratin bond extensions (also called fusion or pre-bonded)

Keratin bonds use a small amount of keratin-based glue, melted by a heated wand, to attach individual strands of extension hair to the natural hair. The result is the most secure attachment of any method and the most natural-looking, because each bond is the size of a grain of rice and disappears completely into the hair.

Keratin bonds last four to six months and the application takes between three and five hours depending on how many strands are placed. They suit clients who want extensions they can essentially forget about between maintenance visits, who swim or work out frequently, and who want maximum movement and styling flexibility.

The drawback is that the bonds are removed using a special solvent, and the process needs to be done by a trained specialist. Done badly, this method can damage the hair. Done well, it is the gold standard.

Sew-in (weave) extensions

Sew-ins are wefts of hair stitched onto a braided base of the natural hair. This method is most often used for clients with thicker, denser hair textures, or for clients who want a particularly dramatic length and volume change. The braided base distributes weight across a wider area, which is why this method works well for textured hair.

A sew-in lasts six to eight weeks before it needs to be removed and reinstalled. The application is highly skilled and takes several hours. The maintenance routine is more involved because the braided base needs to be kept clean and the scalp needs to breathe.

How to choose

If you have fine hair and want a fast, flat, comfortable option: tape-ins.

If you want the gentlest method on your natural hair and the longest wear: micro-rings.

If you want a near-invisible attachment and the most freedom of movement: keratin bonds.

If you have textured or very thick hair and want maximum volume: sew-in.

At Dashe we offer all four methods. The hair we use is 100% Remy human hair, which means the cuticles are aligned in the same direction, which is what makes the difference between extensions that look natural and extensions that tangle within a week. We never use synthetic hair.

The full process always begins with a consultation. We will look at your hair, discuss your routine, and walk you through the options before any colour matching or ordering happens.
