Hair extensions are not one product. There are several attachment methods, each designed for a different hair type, lifestyle, and budget. The question is not whether to get extensions but which method suits you.
At Dashe Beauty, we offer multiple methods because no single technique works for everyone. Here is a clear explanation of each, how long it lasts, and who it suits.
Tape-in extensions
Thin wefts pre-attached to medical-grade adhesive strips. The specialist sandwiches a section of your natural hair between two strips and presses them together. Application takes under an hour and the result sits flat against the scalp, invisible under the natural hair.
Tape-ins last six to eight weeks before they need to be moved up. The same set can be reused two to three times. They suit fine to medium hair and are comfortable to sleep in. They are not ideal for very oily scalps because oil breaks down the adhesive faster.
Micro-ring extensions
Tiny silicone-lined metal rings attach individual extension strands to small sections of natural hair. No glue, no heat, no chemicals. This is the gentlest method on natural hair and the longest-lasting between maintenance appointments, with three to four months before the rings need repositioning.
Application takes three to four hours and the cost is higher due to the time involved. Best suited to medium to thick hair.
Keratin bond extensions
A small keratin-based bond the size of a grain of rice is melted with a heated tool to attach each strand. This produces the most secure hold and the most natural look because each bond disappears into the hair. They last four to six months and suit clients who swim or exercise regularly.
Removal requires a special solvent and a trained specialist. When done well, this is the gold standard. When done poorly, it can damage hair.
How to choose
Fine hair, want something quick and comfortable: tape-in. Want the least damage and longest wear: micro-ring. Want invisible bonds and maximum movement: keratin bond.
