Flawless Hair: Secrets to Recreate a Salon Blow Out at Home

We’re going to show you in a few simple steps how to get the perfect blowout that’s long-lasting on dry hair. Let’s get into it!

For any of you familiar with how we work, we like it quick, fast, and effective. This is how to get a blowout on dry hair—it’s really easy. We’ll be using the Color Wow Raise the Root product to give us all the volume we need.

For us, the blowout never goes out of fashion. It’s timeless, and everyone knows that feeling—you walk out of the salon, your hair’s bouncing, and you feel on top of the world. We’re going to show you how to get that same look at home in just a few steps.

Raise the Root

The first step is applying the product throughout the roots. Raise the Root will do most of the work for us.

• We’ll take a section of hair at the front and spritz Raise the Root all through the root area.
• This product acts as scaffolding for the hair, giving it volume and guts without feeling sticky or stiff.

Blow Dry

This is the cheat’s way to a perfect blowout.

• We’ll take a front section and use a large Heat Retainer Brush. The heat retainer brush holds heat, helping to set the hair with a bouncier finish thanks to its metal base.
• Then, we’ll use a Hair Dryer to add heat for 10 to 15 seconds.

Since the hair is already dry, we’re just drying the product into it, which happens super fast. After adding heat, we’ll let the hair cool, and that’s it—job done!

Velcro Roller

What we like to do while blow-drying the rest of the hair is use Velcro Rollers. They’re a great way to set and perfect the style while working on the rest of the hair. These rollers:

• Keep the hair in place
• Prevent it from getting in the way

Since they’re self-grip, you can just pop them in, and they’ll stick to the hair. Leave them to set, and we’ll repeat the steps we did at the front on the next section behind.

We’ll work:

1. From the front all the way back
2. Down the sides

Application Process

• Apply Raise the Root at the roots for each section. Use just enough product to cover the section of hair.
• We love the Superbrush because it not only gives a great blowout but also features a pointy tip for precise sectioning.
• Take sections of hair no wider than the brush (about 1–2 inches).

Lift each section of the scalp for volume, wrap the ends under, and hit it with heat. Smooth the ends, place the Velcro roller in, and that’s it.

Once the back rollers are in, we move to the side sections:

1. Apply the product to the roots.
2. Take sections of hair, elevate them, and roll them down.
3. If bits fall away, grab them and wrap them back around the brush.

Hit with heat and slide the Velcro roller in. For thicker sections, use a pin underneath to hold the roller in place. Continue until the last section is done—job complete!

Results

Now that all the rollers are in, the hair is prepped with volumizer at the root and secured with Velcro rollers. This ensures the style and blow-dry are long-lasting. There’s nothing worse than putting effort into a blowout only for it to fall flat!

For the next five minutes, you can do your makeup, grab tea, or check on the kids. Then, we’ll take the rollers out to reveal the final look.

Finishing Touches

When removing the rollers, the hair should have:

• Beautiful volume
• Perfect structure

At this stage, avoid brushing or running your fingers through it too much. Let the hair settle, and we’ll show you how to dress it out for the finished style. Ready? Let’s do it!

To complete the look, we love to use a shine spray for that final sparkle. A great tip is to apply the shine spray directly to the bristles of our Super Brush.

1. Take the mid-lengths and ends of the hair.
2. Gently tease the brush through—don’t over-brush to maintain the volume and bounce.
