Hair Weaving in Kuwait: A Full Guide
Hair weaving, also called a sew-in, is a method of adding length and volume by stitching wefts of extension hair onto a braided base of the natural hair. It is the oldest extension technique still in regular use and remains the preferred method for clients with thicker, denser hair textures.
How it works
The natural hair is braided flat against the scalp in a pattern designed to distribute weight evenly. Wefts of extension hair are then stitched onto the braids using a curved needle and thread. The braids serve as the anchor, and the wefts provide the length and volume.
The braiding pattern matters. A good pattern keeps the weight balanced so no single area bears too much tension. A bad pattern can cause traction, which pulls on the hairline and leads to thinning over time.
Who it suits
Sew-ins work best for clients with medium to thick natural hair that can support the weight of the wefts without strain. They are particularly popular with clients who have textured hair (curly, coily) because the braided base integrates well with these hair types.
They are not recommended for clients with very fine or thin hair because the weight of the wefts can cause tension damage.
How long it lasts
Six to eight weeks before the weave needs to be removed and reinstalled. The braids underneath need to be taken down, the scalp and natural hair washed and treated, and fresh braids laid before the wefts are reattached.
Maintenance between installations includes keeping the scalp clean (a nozzle applicator with diluted shampoo works well), moisturising the braids, and avoiding heavy products that build up at the base.
